Responding to the Covid-19 emergency

Although the official numbers of reported cases is not high, the impact of the pandemic and the lockdown  is expected to exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian and economic crises, where at least half of the population (1.01 million people) is living under the poverty line, in overcrowded conditions and with poor access to water and sanitation.   While washing hands several times a day is key to limiting the spread of the virus, people in Gaza even lack drinking water.

ActionAid has been present in Palestine since 2007, working with women and youth groups, building reliance and encouraging active participation in civil and political life. Young people who have been the focus of our projects until recently, have immediately mobilized to help counter the health emergency. They helped distributing protective masks and hygiene kits to families in isolation.

There are another 1,700 people among the most impoverished households that we need to reach with hygiene kits, food parcels or psychological support.

A donation of CHF 10,000 could provide 187 hygiene kits.

Each hygiene kit contains:

4 bottles of Liquid hand soap, 500ml,

1 hygiene hand gel pack of 500 ml (70% alcohol)

2-4Ltr bottles of disinfecting bleach for house use, 5% concentration

2 packs of Women sanitary pads (18 pads in each pack), Wet wipes one pack

2 packs of Garbage bags (60 bags in each pack)

1 box of disposable hand gloves (100 gloves)
